The Center for Microelectronic Technologies of the Institute of Chemistry, Technology and Metallurgy is a unique institution with over 60 years of tradition in basic and applied scientific research. This research is in the field of microelectronic, optoelectronic and microsystems technologies and materials, i.e. microelectromechanical systems and nanosystems. The greatest attention of our researchers is paid to the research and development of miniature sensors for various applications, such as the measurement of environmental pollution parameters (air, water), physiological state of the body (respiration, pulse, chemical composition of sweat and breath, body fluid content), food safety and the like. In addition, research includes the development, design and realization of microfluidic platforms and structures based on MEMS technologies for applications in the fields of chemistry, biochemistry, biology and medicine.

Through the REGMINA project, which is implemented under the FP7 program of the European Union, the Center for Microelectronic Technologies has been promoted as a Center of Excellence for the Western Balkans for the topic of micro and nano systems and has been accredited as a Center of Exceptional Value for the field of technical-technological sciences by the relevant ministry since 2014.

The multidisciplinary research team of more than 30 researchers, who combine the knowledge and experience of senior colleagues with the energy and ideas of young employees, as well as the center's equipment enable continuous progress and expansion of research topics, as well as the successful implementation of national and international projects.

The center also has a tradition of good cooperation with companies, both in the implementation of joint projects and in the marketing of products developed as part of research projects.
