Platforma za otvorenu nauku 2.0

At the ceremonial session of the Open Science Team in Serbia (TONuS), held at the premises of our institute on 25.12, in the presence of prominent members of the scientific community, the Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation, Dr. Jelena Begović, signed the Open Science Platform 2.0, thus formalizing its adoption.

We are proud to highlight the role of our colleague, Dr. Matija Zlatar, Principal Research Fellow at  ICTM, who, as the coordinator of TONuS, has led the efforts in developing the new Platform over the past ten months. It was emphasized at the session that active work is already underway to monitor its implementation and initiatives for further improvements to open science in Serbia.

Minister Dr. Jelena Begović praised the work of TONuS and emphasized the importance of adopting the new Platform:

“The Open Science Platform in Serbia 2.0 represents a more comprehensive and advanced solution that will significantly improve the quality of scientific results in our country and increase the visibility of Serbian science globally. Open science is exactly what science should be – accessible, transparent and geared towards the progress of society.”

The previous Open Science Platform, adopted in 2018, established an open access mandate for publications and recommended open access to research data. With the new policy, the Platform has been updated and significantly expanded. The Open Science Platform 2.0 involves the implementation of five goals, namely open access to scholarly publications, availability of research data, open and transparent access to research infrastructures, transparency of scholarly communication and methodology, and the development of the digital infrastructure and competencies that make it possible to achieve the above goals. Adopting these goals will increase the visibility of scientific results from Serbia globally, cost-effective use of public funds invested in research, and improve scientific integrity and trust in science. It will also encourage connections between science, industry, and society and the development of new research and innovations.

The news of the adoption of the Platform 2.0 also attracted the attention of national media: “Politika”, “Tanjug”, “Uzv!k”.

We invite all members of the scientific community, collaborators, and interested public to familiarize themselves with the new Platform and join our efforts in promoting and implementing the principles of open science in Serbia.
